Dear CC -

I recently did a short paper on Satie's Sports and Diversions and the Memoires of an Amnesiac so I can sympathize with your endeavor. The Sports might have some of what you're looking for - his little interspersed texts are pretty esoteric in some spots. Good luck.

HI! I'm Matthew and I am studying Erik Satie for my GCSE coursework in French. I have only briefly read this website but I would be interested to know if anyone has a decent description of the man in question. THANKYOU!

Dear Satie fans,

Yesterday, I attended a concert titled "Open your head" at the Modern Museum in Stockholm. Surrounded by original works by great artists, Picasso and Dali among others, Olof Höjer played the Gymnopédies and Danses gothiques.

Accompanied by the lovely singer Jeanette Lindström, Ludions and Trois Mélodies. With song and/or recitation by Sven Kristersson, Tendrement, Le Piège de Meduse, Je te veux, Danses gothiques and the complete Sports et Divertissements, including simultaneous show of the drawings of Charles Martin.

A second performance tomorrow (feb 13):

Prophone Records has recently released Olof Höjer's last volume of his Satie CD compilation. I will provide more information on Höjer's webpage soon.

I have a memory from the seventies of seeing part of an animated film about ES;I'm pretty sure it was a British film, and contained some wonderful images.eg.Satie floating over Paris, clinging to his umbrella, the internal mechanism of a piano transformed into row upon row of be-suited Saties.
Can anyone furnish me with more info on this,if only to reassure me that I didnt dream the whole thing?

No, you're not dreaming. I saw it too, and bleeding marvellous it was and all. I think it was on BBC2. I would love to get a copy, if such a thing exists. Any ideas?

These are the lyrics of "trois mélodies": I apologize for not being able to provide the translations, but I cannot speak French.

TROIS MÉLODIES DE 1916

I: LA STATUE DE BRONZE (Léon-Paul Fargue)

I don't speak French either but here is a kind of mediocre translation of La Statue de Bronze, to get a clue what the text is all about. If someone have a better translation don't hesitate to let us know...

Niclas

------------

The frog who plays on the barrel
Is bored in the evening under the arbour.
He has had enough of being the statue
Which will pronounce a great word, the Word...
He would rather be with the different ones
Who makes bubbles of music
With the soap of the moon
At the edge of the golden brown laundry
That one over there shines between the branches.
One launches to him in heart of day a food of spray
Which cross him without him to profit
And from there will sound themselves in the cabinets
Of his pedestal feature.
And in the evening the insects sleep in his mouth.

The second part of Saties "vieux sequins et vielles cuirasses" contains a french clairon-march. This march is used in shrovetide in Wolfach, a small city in the "Kinzigtal" in the Black Forest in Germany as a "Narrenmarsch" (fools march), called "Michelesmarsch",which is played during the shrovetide in Wolfach very often.
I'm searching for more information about this march.
Please send me an email to galindo@gmx.de

Thanks for help to find composition I looked for. Once, during my animation school, in Zagreb, Croatia I watched Satimania and i heared in background amazing music. Now I know it is Gnossienne Nr.5. So, if someone have picture of original manuscript for Gnossienne Nr.5 it will be nice to send me. Thank you.
